Action of Afghan refugees in Baku
Baku/23.08.21/Turan: Today a group of migrants from Afghanistan held a protest rally in the central park ("Winter Boulevard") of Baku. They demanded from the representation of the office of the UN High Commissioner in Azerbaijan to enhance its attention to them. The police arrived at the scene and pushed the protesters out of the park.
According to the press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the police held an explanatory conversation with the participants, following which they were removed from the territory. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, about 40 people took part in the action.
It has to be kept in mind that earlier the UNHCR office in Azerbaijan reported that there are 1,226 refugees from Afghanistan in the country who have no status but have access to health care, education, and the opportunity to work.
It should be noted that these persons arrived in Azerbaijan not attributable to the recent events but in previous years. Many of them arrived with the aim of further heading to Europe. –06D-

President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola has invited Azerbaijani economist and political prisoner Professor Gubad Ibadoglu to Strasbourg to attend the 2024 Sakharov Prize award ceremony.
