Action of protest by the residents
On June 13 the residents of the "Sovetskaya Street" held a protest at the site of their former homes. According to the participants, they have not received compensation for the demolished houses. "We were at the reception of Vice-Premier Hajibala Abutalybov, Head of the Executive Power of Baku, Eldar Azizov. Everywhere we are officially banished. We want the compensation due to us." The police called to the territory told residents about the illegality of the action, began to push participants from the territory.
Demolishing of houses in Sovetskaya St. began in 2014. On the territory of more than 26 hectares, about 4,500 residential and non-residential buildings were purchased and demolished. Demolition work then covered 13 hectares. However, during both phases there were residents who disagreed with the amount of compensation - 1,500 manat per 1 sq. meter. There were also families who resisted the demolition decision. In this regard, a number of complaints were sent to the European Court.
