Another political activist faces deportation from Germany
Baku/28.03.22/Turan: Political activist Ravil Hasanov faces the threat of deportation from Germany to Azerbaijan where he expects repression. This was stated by Zafar Ahmedov, a member of the "Line of Defense" NGO, to Turan agency.
According to him, Hasanov actively participated in demonstrations in Germany to defend political prisoners and human rights activists in Azerbaijan in general. Now he is placed in a detention center for persons to be deported.
Ahmedov believes that while in Azerbaijan Hasanov awaits the fate of Mutallim Orudzhev, Malik Rzaev, Jafar Mirzoyev and Pyunkhan Kerimli, who were also arrested on trumped-up charges of drug trafficking after being deported from Germany and arrested.
The return of the activists is a part of an EU-Azerbaijan readmission agreement; however, under international law, those readmitted should not be persecuted.
"The German government expels activists knowing the risks and threats that await them in Azerbaijan. After the arrests, the German government tries to ignore this problem," Ahmedov said.
The German Embassy in Baku has no information about the Hasanov case. In general, the inquiry on the arrests of the activists returned from Germany was answered as follows: "These issues are known to the Embassy. We are closely following the developments. Also, we regularly communicate on human rights issues within the framework of negotiations with the government of Azerbaijan". -06B-
