Lawyers of the human rights activist Rasul Jafarov filed an appeal against the sentence of imprisonment of 6.5 years. According to the lawyer Alibaba Rzayev, the complaint raises the question of justification Jafarov. The lawyer reiterated that the allegations against Jafarov were completely unfounded, and the investigation has not provided evidence to substantiate the charge.
Rasul Jafarov were indicted on five counts. We have submitted a number of documents and other evidence to refute the prosecution's case," said Rzayev.
*Jafarov was arrested on 2 August 2014. He was charged under Articles 192 of the Criminal Code (illegal business), 213 (tax evasion) and 308 (abuse of power.) Subsequently, he was charged under the Article 179 (embezzlement) and 313 (forgery.) On April 16 court Jafarov was sentenced to 6.5 years in prison. This sentence condemned the United States, Great Britain the EU, many international human rights organizations.
International human rights organization Amnesty International announced Jafarov "prisoner of conscience" soon after the arrest.-06D-
