Appeal Court Keeps Ali Insanov in Custody
The Baku Court of Appeal dismissed the appeal of the former Health Minister Ali Insanov against his arrest for three months on new charges.
Turan was reported by a source in the court. Insanov himself did not participate in the hearing.
On October 11 the Garadag District Court, on the proposal of the regional prosecutor's office, arrested Insanov on charges of possession and distribution of narcotics and resisting the authorities.
Imprisoned for 11 years, Insanov called the charges fraud, so as not to let him out of jail.
Recall that Insanov was arrested in October 2005 on charges of an attempted coup. However, later the authorities for some reason forgot about that and he was sentenced to 11 years for economic crimes.
Although the European Court of Human Rights found a violation of Insanov’s rights, the Azerbaijani authorities have not released him.
Human rights organizations have recognized Insanov a political prisoner. -03B06-
