Convicted people accused of preparing terrorist attacks during the "Eurovision"
The Baku Court of Grave Crimes sentenced the defendants accused of planning terrorist attacks in Azerbaijan during Eurovision 2012.
The court sentenced Kamal Radjabov to 14 years in prison and Rashad Shahbazov - to 13.5 years in prison. Rajab Abbasov and Afig Allahverdiyev received 12-year prison term.
They were found guilty of treason, the creation of an organized criminal terrorist group, smuggling, and illegal weapons possession.
According to unofficial sources, the accused pleaded guilty in part. They rejected the charge of treason.
Recall that at the end of May, the Ministry of National Security of Azerbaijan stated the exposure of an armed group, which planned an attack on President Ilham Aliyev and attacks during the contest Eurovision.
Reported was the arrest of 40 people and the destruction of their leader Vugar Padarov (killed during a special operation in Ganja) and a member Timur Hasanov (killed in Baku).
According to the investigators, the group planned an attempt on Aliyev during his visit to the north-western region in early April. In addition, members of the group were to commit bombings and armed attacks in hotels Hilton Baku and Marriott Hotel Absheron, as well as in the complex Baku Crystal Hall, where concerts of Eurovision were performed.
Note that the trial of the case was held in private and in individual groups. - 06D -
