Court of Appeal Keeps PFPA Activists in Custody

Baku / 22.04.20 / Turan: The Baku Court of Appeal examined complaints about the administrative arrest of members of the Popular Front Party Faig Amirli and Ruslan Amirli.

The assistant to the head of the Popular Front Party Faig Amirli was detained on April 8 at his home and sentenced to 30 days of arrest on charges of violating the quarantine regime.

A volunteer bodyguard for Ali Karimli Ruslan Amirov was detained on April 9, when he brought his young child to the doctor. Despite having an SMS permission to leave his home, he was accused of violating the quarantine regime and was also sentenced to 30 days of arrest.

The Baku Court of Appeal, having examined the complaints of both oppositionists on April 21, kept them in custody.

PFPA found the arrests of activists politically motivated. In the past 10 days, at least 8 party activists have been sentenced to administrative arrests on charges of violating the quarantine regime and not subordinating to the police.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs rejects the political background of the arrests. –03B06-
