Disabled veteran complains to MIA of GUBOP

The head of the Committee to Protect Disabled Karabakh Veterans, an invalid of the first group, Magrur Badalsoy, accused the staff of the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime (GUBOP – local abbreviation) of the Interior Ministry of extortion.

At today's press conference, he said that on 18 July, two employees of the office were in the shop, owned by members of the Committee at Bakikhanov Settlement, at the crossroads of Peace and Youth Streets. They illegally detained the seller and took 15,000 manat in cash from him.

In this case, no document for the detention of the seller was submitted, nor an official act on the seizure of the money.

The Head of the Committee addressed representatives of the Interior Ministry, the Prosecutor's Office and the Ombudsman, but in vain. The seller was only released after addressing the human rights activist Elchin Behbudov.

"But our money was not returned. I was promised the money would be returned, but after waiting at GUBOP for 4 hours, I faced psychological pressure. Then I was told that the money would be refunded, provided that I give them," 40% of the amount" said Badalsoy.

According to him, he still has not received the money, despite complaining to the leadership of law enforcement, and no investigation has been carried out.

He also stated that members of GUBOP committed similar acts with regard to a store located nearby. However, the situation was rectified as they had security cameras.

The Committee appealed to the Mayor of Baku with the notice of intention to hold a picket in front of GUBOP and apparatus of the Ombudsman under the slogan: "Bring back our money," "Respect human rights," "Down with the KGB GUBOP!" on August 5.

The Interior Ministry did not comment on the allegations. -03C06-
