E.Sadygov: REAL Activists Illegally Interrogated at Prosecutor General`s Office and State Security Service
Contained in administrative detention, activists of REAL Togrul Ismayilov and Elshan Gasimov were taken away from the detention center to the Baku Main Police Office. There they were subjected to interrogation by an investigator of the Investigation Department on Grave Crimes of the General Prosecutor's Orkhan Babayev. His lawyer Elchin Sadygov told Turan. According to him, the interrogation lasted more than three hours and touched activities of the arrested Executive Secretary of the movement REAL Natig Jafarli, who is put forward criminal charges of illegal entrepreneurship and abuse of office.
On August 17 the activists were repeatedly questioned. At this time the interrogation was also attended by an employee of the State Security Service (SSS).
Sadygov learned about the interrogations of the activists on 18 August when he visited them in the temporary police detention in the Binagadi district.
Sadygov pointed out the illegality of escorting people under arrest to another place.
He intends to file a complaint with the appropriate authorities. Generally the young people have been arrested illegally, the lawyer said.
According to the lawyer, the young people were illegally kept after the arrest in the courtyard of the 9th police station.
Gasimov and Ismayilov were arrested on August 15 and the next day sentenced to 7 days of administrative arrest.
They are the authorized representatives of the initiative group of REAL for the referendum on constitutional amendments.
REAL opposes the amendments, considering that they are aimed at strengthening authoritarianism. -0--
