The Delegation of the European Union (EU) to Azerbaijan in cooperation with the Embassies of European Union member states and in partnership with the Administration of the State Historical-Architectural Reserve “Icheri Sheher” is pleased to announce the 2014 EuroVillage on 31 May 2014 in the historical old city of Baku. With lots of activities, performances, and events for children the Eurovillage is a great and fun way for families to find out more about the European Union and its member states, as well as their activities in Azerbaijan.
The EuroVillage will be open from 11 to 22.00 on 31 May near Double Gates of Icheri Sheher. From 11:00 – 19:00, the EU and 18 EU member-states stands will present their countries and activities in Azerbaijan. There will be face painting, quizzes with prizes, karaoke, European food and musical and theatrical performances throughout the day, including the Irrwisch street theatre group from Austria and Mugham performances inspired by Latvian folk songs, to name a few.
The evening programme, from 19:00 to 22:00 will be composed of concerts by European artists including Joan Franka, Eurovision finalist from the Netherlands, cellist Ana Rucner from Croatia with her signature modern and exciting interpretation of classic music and "Traffic" a band from Estonia with their exciting pop rock, which has won them awards all over Europe.
"The EuroVillage is a great experience that we will again present to the Azerbaijani public this year. It is a way to illustrate the growing relations between the EU and Azerbaijan. It demonstartes the EU involvement in Azerbaijan and invites the visitors to feel and taste what Europe has to offer; through this we hope to increase awareness about the EU and its Member States in Azerbaijan, and foster better understanding of our rich cultures. I invite everybody to come to the Eurovillage on 31 May, which I hope will be a great day of learning, fun and entertainment", said EU Ambassador to Azerbaijan Malena Mard.
The official opening of the ceremony is scheduled to take place with participation of EU Ambassador Malena Mard and other EU member state ambassadors at 11.30. -0-

This year, 22,000 foreign language teachers and an additional 4,000 teachers who were unable to pass certification last year will be involved in the certification process, the director of the state agency for preschool and general education, Eshgi Bagirov, announced on February 12. According to him, of the 65,000 teachers involved in the certification, 55,000 passed successfully and received salary supplements. At the same time, employment contracts were terminated with 5,000 teachers who did not pass the certification.
