Facebook is not a drug cartel

Detained activists of  Facebook should be released. Somehow, all activists of this social network in Azerbaijan are  accused of crimes related to drugs,  as if Facebook is the drug cartel. This was the leitmotif of the  press conference in defense blogger Abdul Abilova held  on March 6 at the office IRFS.

It was noted that currently in Azerbaijan  five bloggers are  under arrest. Four of them are  Abdul Abilov, Rashad Ramazanov, Elvin Kerimov and Omar Mamedov  are charged under Article 234.4.3 of the Criminal Code (production, purchase, storage , distribution and large-scale transportation of drugs.)  Punishment under this Article threatened with imprisonment from five  to 12 years,  said a human rights activist Rasul Jafarov.

One of these activists Abdul Abilov was arrested on 25 November, 2013.

Human rights activists, was arrested for the creation of Facebook a page titled "Stop sycophants." After his arrest the  page was closed. Abilov was kept in the General Directorate for Combating Organized Crime. His mother Nurjahan Abilova claims that her son has nothing to do with drugs.

A lawyer Khalid Bagirov said that the investigation is going with violations of the law,  and  is deliberately delayed. Accusation against Abilov are not based on real evidence, the lawyer said. He called the police and the court to justice. -03C04-
