Conductors complain of discrimination by gender

Conductors of  passenger trains of the  CJSC "Azerbaijan Railways", in protest against their dismissal from work, carried out in Thursday's press conference at IRFS.

A conductor Mirsahib Sakhibov reported that the mass dismissal of conductors began in 2007. Then  were dismissed conductors with experience  of work from 15 and 30 years. Of 3,000 conductors there left  only 300 conductors. During this period, 450 were hired conductors; the  process continues.

Accusations of men-conductors that they do not serve passengers properly, sell drugs, steal things, and all these accusations are unfounded. Another reason for the dismissal of conductors, which work  for a long time in the Russian direction is not knowing the Russian language, and  their service do not  meet  European standards. Conductors believe these accusations are absurd.

The press conference announced that the management of the railway explained it by the  instructions received from the First Lady of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva.

As for  hiring women-conductors, " do they know any European languages , what special courses  did they attend? " asked a conductor Mirsahib Sakhibov. According to him, the newly hired women-conductors are paid  450-500 manats, while men-conductors used to get 200 manats.

The press conference participants believe that the true reason for the mass dismissal of conductors is fraud  of the railway management, which appropriated the funds debited  for years on the conductors. "Our dismissal will help the management to conceal their financial crimes which caused damage to the state and to avoid criminal responsibility," says Mirsahib Sakhibov. According to him, under the guise of repairs and the purchase of new cars  millions of public funds have been stolen.

Railway men regard these events as bureaucratic arbitrariness and indifference to the fate  of citizens , violation of human rights. They believe that behind all this is the head of JSC " Azerbaijan Railways " Arif Askerov and Transport, Minister Ziya Mammadov.

Throughout the long months  the appeals  to state bodies remained unanswered. For this reason, the  conductors  have to seek asylum in foreign embassies. -05C04-
