Former Deputy Defense Minister of Azerbaijan Arrested
The former Deputy Minister of Defense of Azerbaijan Mehman Salimov has been arrested. He is brought to justice in a criminal case in the Investigation Department for Serious Crimes of the Prosecutor General's Office.
Salimov is charged under articles 179.3.2 (embezzlement on a large scale) and 308.2 (abuse of power) of the Criminal Code and in respect of him a preventive measure of arrest has been selected.
Turan was told by the head of the press service of the Prosecutor General's Office Eldar Sultanov.
He did not disclose other details.
Judging by the result, in respect of Salimov, the investigation is held not by the military prosecutor's office. It is believed that his arrest is not related to the activities of the Ministry of Defense.
Salimov in 1995-99 served as Deputy Minister of Defense for policy and public affairs.
