Former Head of Ministry's Staff Sentenced to 13 Years in Prison
Baku / 27.07.17 / Turan: Today Baku Court for Serious Crimes presided by judge Afgan Hajiyev issued a verdict on former employees of the Ministry of Communications and High-Tech. According to the verdict, the former head of staff of the Ministry of Communications Vidadi Zeynalov was sentenced to 13 years in prison. The former head of the Production Association Baku Telephone Communication Beytullah Huseynov was sentenced to the same term. The head of the Optic Devices department Namazali Mammadov was sentenced to 11 years in prison, Emin Mammadov - to 10 years, Senior Engineer at Baku Telephone Communication Anar Mustafayev - to 5 years, and Gambar Beybalayev - to 3 years.
The court sentenced the former General Director of LLC Aztelecom Mammad Mammadov to 5.7 years in jail, the Chief Accountant of Aztelecom Oktay Rustamov - to 5.6 years, the Director of Tamir Techizat Service Bayram Veliyev - to 5.5 years, the Chief Accountant of Optic Communication, Construction and Installation Sahrab Humbatov - to 5.6 years, the former General Director of LLC AzInTelecom Jalil Jafarov - to 5.5 years. They were sentenced to suspended sentences, and released in the courtroom.
The court ruled on the confiscation of property, and the income from this property will be used to pay the damage to the Ministry. The property of Mammad Mammadov was not confiscated, since his property was not registered on his name.
The property claim of the Ministry of Communications was partially satisfied. It also turned out that the Ministry of Taxes withdrew its civil suit.
Elkhan Suleymanli, lawyer for Vidadi Zeynalov, stated to the media earlier that his client paid 2 million 25 thousand manat for damages on July 10, and he paid the remainder of 536 manat to IBA on July 11. In total, Vidadi Zeynalov paid the entire damage - 7 million 330 thousand 563 manat.
Together with Vidadi Zeynalov, 11 people stood before the court. The sum misappropriated and embezzled by them amounted to 153,143,000 manat.
The materials of the case refer to misappropriation and embezzlement of funds under the guise of ongoing repair and construction works, procurement of equipment, formal tenders and so on. -16d04-
