Ilham Aliyev: The Victory of "Georgian Dream" Has Made the South Caucasus More Stable
Ilham Aliyev congratulated Irakli Kobakhidze on the victory of the Georgian Dream party in the elections and wished him continued success. "The victory of your party is of particular significance for the entire South Caucasus, making it a more stable region, and we rejoice in this victory as your friends and brothers. We wish your government new successes in its work," said Aliyev during a joint briefing following talks and the signing of bilateral documents.
"I believe our political relations can serve as an example for all our neighbors. We have good results in the economic sphere. Azerbaijan has invested $3.6 billion in the Georgian economy," Aliyev noted. He particularly highlighted cooperation in the energy sector. "The joint oil and gas projects we are implementing form the basis of the energy security of many countries. Today, Azerbaijan exports 25 billion cubic meters of gas to 11 countries via Georgia, and exports are growing every year. More than 80% of Georgia's consumed natural gas comes from Azerbaijan," Aliyev stated.
The "Middle Corridor" project was also discussed during the negotiations, with Georgia and Azerbaijan playing a crucial role as a bridge between Europe and Asia, Aliyev noted.
For his part, Irakli Kobakhidze thanked Aliyev for the congratulations. "This is important for ensuring stability and security in our region, as well as for relations between our countries. You are the leader of the region and an example for us. You lead your country while protecting the interests of your state," Kobakhidze remarked. "We discussed the processes taking place in the region and global events. Of course, all these processes affect our countries and our policies. It is important to work together," he continued.
Touching on the economy, the Georgian Prime Minister emphasized communication projects. "We are connecting Asia with Europe and must make the most of this potential," he said.
