Former Residents of Sovetskaya Area Protest Again
Baku/09.03.21/Turan: Former residents of the territory known as Sovetskaya held another protest action on March 9, gathering in front of the building of the Executive Power of the Yasamal region.
They complain about unfair compensation awarded for the demolition of their homes in 2014. The protesters claim that they were evicted by the police and they were paid a total of 28-38 thousand manats for housing.
According to one of the tenants, while his area was 160 square meters, he was paid money for 142 square meters. Residents claim that they cannot purchase housing with the money allocated to them.
The district administration received 4 representatives of the protesters.
The demolition of Sovetskaya began in 2014. On an area of 26 hectares, about 4,500 residential and non-residential buildings were demolished. At the second stage, another 920 buildings were demolished on an area of 13 hectares.
At both stages, there were owners who did not agree with the proposed compensation in the amount of 1,500 manats per square meter of housing. They periodically hold protests.
Some people even went to the European Court of Human Rights. Demolition continues in this area. -30C-
