French Football Team Wins World Cup for Women
The French team has become champion of the World Cup among girls aged under 17. In a bitter game, late at night on October 13 in the final match in Baku at the Republican stadium named after Tofig Bakhramov, the French girls beat North Korea (DPRK). At Time, the match ended in a 1-1 draw. According to competition rules to determine the winner, there was a penalty shootout.
However, after a series of five 11-meter hits the winner was not identified. Further penalties continued, and only the eighth 11-meter strike determined the winner: the French football player scored a goal, but the blow by the Korean player was parried by the France goalkeeper. Thus, the penalties ended in favor of the French team, 7-6 and they became world champions.
In the match for third place, Ghana won the victory, beating the German team 1-0.
The award ceremony was held immediately after the final match when the World champions and prize medals were awarded by the head of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, President of UEFA, Michel Platini, and FIFA Vice-president Issa Hayat.
At the closing ceremony of the championship at the Republican stadium, the international star Shakira held a concert.
Note that the participants included 16 teams.
The host of the championship - the Azerbaijani team lost in the group all three matches respectively to Colombia - 0:4, Nigeria - 0:11 and Canada 0:1 and were eliminated from the championship in the first stage.
Note that the two previous World Football Cups girls U-17 were won by DPRK and South Korea in 2008 and 2010. -0--
