Baku/23.06.23/Turan: Youth activist Giyas Ibragimov, arrested on June 22, has gone on hunger strike today in protest against his unjustified administrative prosecution, his mother Shura Amiraslanova said.

"Giyas called today and said that he had declared an indefinite hunger strike against illegal arrest in connection with criticism of police violence in the village of Soyudlu and inhumane treatment of him in the detention center of persons arrested administratively by the Interior Ministry," Amiraslanova said.

The Interior Ministry could not be reached for comment.

Recall that Giyas Ibragimov was arrested on June 22 for 30 days for "violating the requirements of the legislation on the placement of information prohibited for dissemination" (Article 388-1.1 of the Code of Administrative Offenses) and disobeying the request of a security officer (Article 535 of the Code of Administrative Offenses of Azerbaijan), the press service of the Interior Ministry reported.

However, the activist's mother said that persons in plaincloths came to their house for IGiyas and demanded to remove a critical post on social networks addressed to the police and authorities due to violent dispersal of a protest action on June 20 in the village of Seyudlu.

Note that Ibragimov was arrested before. In 2016, he was arrested after he and the now deceased Bayram Mammadov wrote political slogans on the pedestal of the monument to Heydar Aliyev. Both were sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment, but were pardoned in 2019. -21B06-
