Health Problems at Arrested Activist
Baku / 15.08.18 / Turan: The state of health of Zafar Ahmedov, an activist of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan, who is serving an administrative punishment for 30 days, has deteriorated sharply.
As Turan's wife, activist Ganimat Ahmedova, said, on August 13, the oppositionist in the pre-trial detention facility suffered from severe pain in the kidneys and was called an ambulance.
The activist was given painkillers. On August 14, he became somewhat better. But several hours later the pain again exacerbated.
Ahmedova transferred painkillers and injections to the detention center. According to her, Z. Ahmedov suffers from kidney disease. "Usually when he has attacks of pain, they last 2-3 days," said Ahmedova.
As Ahmedova stressed, her husband should take a lot of fluids, but in the detention center conditions it is impossible.
Zafar Ahmedov was detained on July 27 at about 3 pm and taken to the Khatai District Court, which appointed him 30 days of arrest on an administrative charge of not subordinating the police.
PFPA is convinced that Z. Ahmedov, as well as his son Fuad Ahmadli, is persecuted for political reasons.
** Fuad Ahmadli was arrested on August 17, 2018 on the far-fetched charge of "violating the norms of the law on operative-search activity", in particular, the distribution of personal data of users of the mobile communication network Azerfon.
In addition, he was accused of abuse of office. On June 16, 2017, Ahmadli was sentenced to 4 years of imprisonment. On August 17, the appellate court upheld the verdict. Ahmadli is recognized as a political prisoner. -05B06-

Baku, often called the "Caucasian Dubai," is increasingly known for systematic violations of residents' housing rights. During urban renovations and the construction of elegant new buildings, thousands of families in Azerbaijan’s capital have been unlawfully deprived of their homes. Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
