Hilal Mamedov arrested for three months
Nizami District Court Judge Ramil Hasanov handed down a decision today to keep Hilal Mamedov, editor of the newspaper Tolyshi Sado, in custody for three months, Turan was told by the lawyer Anar Gasimov.
The lawyer confirmed that the charges were brought under Article 234 of the Criminal Code - possession and distribution of drugs. Mamedov faces 5 to 12 years of imprisonment for possession of more than 30 grams of heroin.
The lawyer said his client's arrest was arbitrary and made a petition to free him from under arrest, but it was rejected.
Another application concerned the investigation of a complaint in connection with physical abuse to the defendant. This request was granted and the photos, which recorded traces of beatings, were sent to the prosecutor of the Nizami district of Baku.
Hilal Mamedov has been sent to the Shuvalan preliminary investigation prison. -05B04-
