Investigation "blocks" the lawyer Hilal Mamedov
Committee to Protect Rights of the arrested editor of "Tolyshi Sado", Hilal Mammadov, intends to strengthen public campaign for his release. At today’s meeting of the committee, the brother of the arrested, Sabahaddin Mammadov, said that not any investigation is going on. This applies to charges of illegal possession of drugs and treason. Mammadov’s relatives are not allowed to meet with him.
The head of the Committee, Arzu Abdullayeva, focused attention on the fact that Mammadov’s rights have been violated since the moment of his detention. So, he was subjected to physical pressure, the search in his flat was conducted with violation of procedural norms, and the presumption of innocence was violated.
She offered a group of lawyers, jointly with lawyers to work out the tactics of protection and measures to ensure the rights of Mammadov.
Independent lawyer Khalid Bagirov believes that the authorities want to block
information on the case of Mammadov. This is why the lawyers were taken to sign a secrecy of investigation. "If the police themselves are spreading information about the investigation, then why is it forbidden to lawyers. This is done deliberately in order to disarm the lawyers," said the lawyer. In his view, lawyers should speak with petitions against the closed trial of Mammadov.
This view is also supported by the lawyers Elchin Namazov and Namizad Safarov.
Director of the Turan news agency, Mehman Aliyev, offered to prepare a biographical essay about Mammadov to inform international public about his personality.
Political analyst, Zardusht Alizadeh, proposed to coordinate the activity of the Committee to protect the rights of Mammadov together with the Russian human rights activist Svetlana Gannushkina, who is actively conducting an international campaign in support of the chief editor of "Tolyshi Sado."
Following the meeting, a decision was adopted to develop in the coming days a specific measures for legal protection of Mammadov’s, including the investigation of the facts of physical pressure on him. -16C-
