Judgment in respect of Azadlig newspaper is upheld
Baku / 06.12.17 / Turan: Baku Court of Appeal rejected suits of both sides in the case Shirin Abdullayev against the newspaper "Azadlig".
According to the staff of the editorial office reported from the newspaper, the case is connected with the article published on the site azadliq.info entitled: "The one who spoke against the journalist was a friend of the head of the bandit department". This material was prepared from the trial of journalist Fikret Faramazoglu.
One of the witnesses in the case, Shirin Abdullayev, claims that this article humiliated his authority. At the initial stage, the lawsuit was examined in the Yasamal court, which partially satisfied the lawsuit and the newspaper was obliged to publish a refutation. Both sides filed a complaint against the court's decision.
Azadlyg newspaper demanded to reject the claim, and the plaintiff - that the newspaper paid him compensation for moral and material damage of 10,000 manats. The appeal was heard by a panel of judges chaired by Ismail Veliyev. The court decided that the decision of the Yasamal court was fair. Complaints were rejected.
The Azadliq newspaper was told that they did not agree with the decision and would file a cassation appeal with the Supreme Court. The lawsuits on the above-mentioned case began in the summer. Yasamal Court partially satisfied the claim on August 23.
Last year, the Azadlig newspaper ceased publication. The editor-in-chief of the newspaper Ganimat Zahid emigrated several years ago, and at the beginning of this year the editor of this newspaper, Rahim Hajiyev, emigrated.
Director for the distribution of the Azadlig newspaper, Faik Amirli, was arrested. On August 20 of last year, he was detained and charged under the Articles 213.1 (tax evasion for a large sum) and 283.2.2 (incitement to national, religious, racial, social enmity and use of official position). The court sentenced him to 3 years and 3 months of imprisonment. In April this year, the court at the request of the Ministry of Communications ruled to block the site azadliq.info.--0--
