Leila Yunus Transferred to Prison Medical Facility
The prisoner human rights activist Leila Yunus has been transferred to the medical unit of the Baku Detention Facility after the survey by the German professor Christian Witt. The lawyer Elchin Gambarov told Turan.
According to him, Professor Witt surveyed Yunus late last week and recommended to transfer her to the medical unit, because treatment in the cell was not possible.
Yunus is in satisfactory conditions. The sentence did not have any psychological impact on her, as was expected, the lawyer said.
He also said that the Professor was also to inspect Leila Yunus’s husband Arif Yunus in the MNS jail.
Currently, the defense is preparing an appeal against the sentence on Leila Yunus.
The Yunus spouses were arrested a year ago. On August 13 the court sentenced them to 8.5 and 7 years in prison on charges of economic crimes. They rejected the accusations and insisted on the political motives of the criminal case. The United States, the United Kingdom, the Council of Europe, the EU, the European Parliament and many international non-governmental organizations have condemned the verdict on the spouses Yunus. -06D-
