Media Review 24 December 2019
The reasons for Azerbaijan’s non-accession to the WTO, the discussion of the formation of a new parliament, the reasons for the cheap sale of gas to the population are the topics of today's media.
Azertac publishes an interview with President Ilham Aliyev to local journalists in connection with the results of the outgoing year.
In particular, the issue of accession to the WTO was raised. According to the president, the time for joining this organization has not come yet. One reason is the EU conditions in relation to trade. The main export of Azerbaijan is oil and gas, and there is no need to be a WTO member to export these products.
“If we become members of the WTO, then our producers, including those in industry and agriculture, may face big problems,” the president said. According to him, our market may be filled with low-quality goods.
The site “Moderator.az” provides the reasoning of the deputy Gudrat Hasanguliyev about the formation of a new parliament, the elections will be held on February 9, 2020.
People ready to work should come there. There are two bases for updating the parliament: the non-governmental sector and the Azerbaijani press, he said.
The site “Ovqat.com” discusses the cost of natural gas sold to the population at a price below cost with expert Nusret Gasimov. According to him, the cost of production of one cubic meter of gas is 57.6 qepiks, however, 1 cubic meter is sold to the population for 7-11 qepiks. The price rises if a fee is added for the delivery of gas to land and its processing. Today gas is sold to the public below cost.
