Media Review - January 25, 2019
Two views on rallies and the volume of imported meat are the leading themes of today's media.
The newspaper Azerbaijan writes about opposition rallies. The author believes that at present there is no reason to hold them. "Destructive opposition", going to the streets, wants to emphasize its presence.
The last rally, the author believes, proved that the opposition is fading away because it does not have a social base, and the leaders of the opposition parties betray national interests.
The website Azadlıq.info writes that the mass opposition rally on January 19 frightened the authorities, therefore the rally on January 26 was not sanctioned. Moreover, protesters are under pressure and intimidation. Authorities cannot solve problems in a civilized manner, therefore they resort to violence, the author believes.
Not sanctioning the rally was the only "right" decision for the authorities.
The newspaper Yeni Musavat writes about meat imports. The newspaper discusses the issue with the expert Rovshan Agayev, according to whom the expansion of sown areas in recent years deprives animals of pastures and meadows.
In this regard, meat imports increased. In 2018, imports amounted to 47,399.29 tons. In 2018, most cattle were imported from Georgia and Russia.
The expert does not consider real the statement that local meat needs are 90% satisfied. According to statistics, to meet the needs of the population 360,000 tons of meat of various types is required.
However, the above statistics proves that local production is not enough. -0--
