Media Review - May 1, 2019

The meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers on April 30, the religious lessons at school, and comments on the increase in the limit on gas supply are the leading topics of today's media.

The newspaper Azerbaijan writes about the meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers held on April 30 with the participation of President Ilham Aliyev on socio-economic development in the first quarter. At the meeting, the head of state said there was no alternative to reform.

The author claims there is no country in the world that has achieved such a development as Azerbaijan in 15 years.

During the first quarter of this year, budget revenues increased, additional financial resources were formed, and $ 2.8 billion was invested in the country's economy. The President said at the meeting that 2019 will be successful for the country.

The website Modern.az writes about the introduction of the subject of religion into the curriculum from the next school year. MP Fazil Mustafa said that he perceives it normally in the light of multiculturalism. In his opinion, this will help children not to be aggressive towards other religions, and to be humane. Nevertheless, he believes that religion should not be taught as a lesson, and it is more appropriate to conduct it in a multicultural form. In all likelihood, training will be included in the subject Knowledge of the World.

The website Yeni Sabah discusses the problem with the limit of gas to the population. On April 30, the Tariff Council raised the limit from 1,700 cubic meters to 2,200 cubic meters. Expert Rovshan Agayev considers this level to be satisfactory. Currently there are 2.150 million gas customers in the country.

According to surveys, 56% of all customers consume less than 1.7 thousand cubic meters of gas per year. According to current regulations, the rate of gas consumption per person is 21 cubic meters.

For an average family of 4 people, the norm is 84 cubic meters. According to the Tariff Council, currently the number of families consuming a maximum of 140 cubic meters per month is 1.2 thousand.
