National Council Demands Stopping Persecution of Relatives of Political Emigrants
Baku / 03.03.18 / Turan: The National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF) demanded the Azerbaijani authorities stop reprisals against relatives of political emigrants in Europe who criticize the authorities.
In a statement of the National Council on March 3 it is said that recently relatives of political emigrants in Azerbaijan have become hostages. Unable to get those who escaped from the dictatorial regime after gaining asylum in the West, the Azerbaijani authorities decided to terrorize their relatives in the country.
So, on February 13, under fictitious and falsified charges, the police arrested Elman Agayev, a relative of the blogger Mohammed Mirzali, living in France for 30 days.
On February 17, police raided in Baku the apartments of the sisters of another blogger Ordukhan Teymurkhan, who lives in the Netherlands. Two nephews of the blogger, Sabuhi Zeynalov and Tural Aliyev were arrested administratively for 30 days on charges of disobeying the police.
On February 18, the police took Alovsat Sadygly, the father of the blogger Tural Sadygly, who also lives in the West, from his house. After holding him all day, the police released him, warning about the need to stop criticizing the authorities on the part of Tural.
On February 23, police arrested his brother Elghiz, taking him directly from his workplace. Only 4 days later the family found out that he was arrested on administrative charges for possession and distribution of drugs.
It became known that he was tortured by the police and forced to drink tea, where drugs were mixed. In addition, he was tortured with electric shock and beaten.
On February 20 Aydin Mammadov, a relative of Jamal Seyidli, a political emigrant who was granted asylum in Germany, was arrested for 30 days.
On February 17, Abdullah Abuzarov, a relative of Elmir Shiraliyev, a political emigrant who actively participated in protests against human rights violations in Azerbaijan, was arrested.
As noted in the statement of the National Council, this is not a complete list of repressions of innocent people because of the political activities of their relatives. Their "fault" is that they protest against corruption and demand the release of political prisoners.
The National Council requires the authorities to put an end to these illegal actions and repressions, stop the prosecution of the innocent and immediately release all arrested relatives of political emigrants. -02D-
