Oppositionist's son was imprisoned in "Tubzon"
Baku/24.07.20/Turan: Mehdi Ibrahimov, the son of a member of the Popular Front party Mamed Ibrahim, was imprisoned in a specialized institution of the Penitentiary Service for Tuberculosis Patients No. 3, known as "Tubzona".
He is charged under Article 139-1.1 ((violation of the anti-epidemic, sanitary-hygienic and quarantine regime, which caused the spread of the disease or created a threat to it) of the Criminal Code. A preventive measure was taken against him in the form of arrest.
According to the investigation, Ibrahimov is accused of violating quarantine; being isolated due to the coronavirus, he left his home.
However, the father of the arrested person reported that his son was arrested on July 15 because of the rally in support of the army. If his son was sick with coronavirus, he would not be kept in the police for a whole week along with other detainees, father said.
In addition, Mehdi was brought to the court and taken away in an ordinary police car, and the officers accompanying him were in regular uniform and not in a protective suit.
Mammad Ibrahim also indicated that his son was detained on July 15, but the court ruled to count down the arrest period from July 20, which was a gross violation.
It is noteworthy that Mehdi Ibrahimov is a member of the ruling New Azerbaijan Party. The head of the press service of the New Azerbaijan Party, Huseyn Pashayev, confirmed to Turan that Mehdi Ibrahimov is a member of this party.
“According to the article of the accusation, it is clear that Mehdi Ibrahimov did not participate in illegal actions and, as a member of the New Azerbaijan Party, was at the action expressing support for the army. He was detained not for participating in the action, but for leaving home, being infected,” Pashayev said.
