Parviz Hashimli : Pressure in pre-trial prison of the Ministry of national Security (MNS) does not stop

Journalist and human rights activist Parviz Hashimli stopped the hunger strike that he  began on April 15 in jail of the  MNS. He protested against the refusal to grant him a meeting with the family. Hashimli stopped  a hunger strike after prison chief assured that the meeting will take place,  Turan  was told by the lawyer Bahruz Bayramov.

At today’s trial in the  Baku Serious Crimes Court  Hashimli said that he still  is not allowed to  have a walk, moreover, the court sessions are watched by  the employees of the MNS.

However, the judge Novruz Karimov denied these words of the journalist.

Further, Zaur Abdullayev gave testimonies, who was a witness  during a search in the car of another  witness in the case, Tavakkul Gurbanov. According to  the lawyer, the testimony of this witness contradicted  to what what was said during the preliminary investigation.

Hashimli himself petitioned to send a request to the border service , to  establish the identity of the Iranian citizen, who is called the courier delivering contraband weapons . However, the judge rejected the request. The trial will continue on April 24.

* Parviz Hashimli, an employee of the newspaper " Biyzim Yol ", the head of the website moderator.az, was arrested  on September 17, 2013 by the MNS. In March  the arrest term was extended for another three months. He is charged under the Articles 206.3.2 (smuggling) and 228.2.1 (illegal possession of firearms.) The journalist pleaded not guilty , saying that during the investigation he  was forced  to give testimonies against a number of officials who allegedly financed the opposition. He also  was made slander PFPA leader, Ali Kerimli.-16B06-
