PFPA activist refused to testify in court
Baku / 25.08.18 / Turan: Today the Baku Serious Crimes Court began the judicial investigation of the criminal case against the youth activist of the Popular Front Party Orhan Bakhyshly, accused of trafficking a large scale drugs. The case is considered by the judges under the chairmanship of Mahmoud Agalarov.
Like the preparatory meeting on August 14, today's process was semi-closed. Nobody was allowed into the hall, except for the parents of the activist and representatives of the embassies of Western countries. At the same time, the hall was already filled in advance with strangers.
The court did not grant the defense's motion to release Bakhyshly from the iron cage for the duration of the trial. An indictment was announced at the meeting.
Bakhishly called the charges false and in protest, against not allowing his loved ones into the hall, refused to give evidence to the court. Then, police officers who detained the young man gave testimonies.
Bakhyshli was detained on May 6 and the police allegedly detained him with six gram of heroin. The activist rejected the accusations and said that the police officers had planted drugs to him.
A few days before the arrest, on May 3, at an event on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, at the grave of journalist Elmar Huseynov, Bakhishli accused the country"s authorities of the murder of the journalist. The colleagues believe that this was precisely the reason for his arrest. Human rights activists recognized Bakhyshly as a political prisoner. -06D--
