Police Sergeant Demands Punishment of Opposition Activist
Baku/20.08.22/Turan: An employee of the post-patrol service of the Nasimi District Police Department of Baku, Sergeant Seymur Imanov filed a complaint against Gulnara Rahimova, a member of the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party (PFPA), as a private criminal charge. He demands to bring the girl to justice under the Article 147 (slander) and 148 (insult) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan, each of which provides for penalties, including imprisonment for up to 6 months. The reason for a complaint was Rahimova's post on the social network Facebook, published on 11 August.

On July 20, during the rally in front of the Cabinet of Ministers demanding "Open the borders!" Rahimova was detained near the "Icheri Sheher" metro station. According to the girl, she witnessed the beating of Aziz Mamiyev in the 41st police department, who was taken there with her. She even then wrote about it on facebook.
On August 11, Rahimova shared a photo of Sergeant Imanov, who, according to her, was participating in the beating of Mamiyev. She believes that there was no insult or slander in her publication. “This complaint aims to put pressure on me for participating in protest actions and criticizing the government,” Rahimova wrote on facebook.
The case against Rahimova was taken under control by the human rights organization "Protection Line". According to Zafar Ahmedov, a member of the NGO "Protection Line", there are no signs of insult or slander in Rahimova's publication.
“The user who published the post is not responsible for the content of the comment ,” Ahmedov told Turan. Imanov's private prosecutor could not be reached for comment.
It should be noted that Gulnara Rahimova is known for her active participation in protest actions, for what she has been detained and fined more than once. -06B-
