Press Review 07/20/2016

In the center of media attention, there are amendments to the Constitution proposed by President Ilham Aliyev.

The official newspaper Azerbaijan considers the draft amendments to the Basic Law as "another Ilham Aliyev's initiative to hold progressive reforms."

However, the opposition newspaper Azadlig reported on discussions in the coordination center of the National Council of Democratic Forces, whose members saw in the proposed amendments an attempt to strengthen the family power and the transformation of the republican system to a private mode.

The newspaper Novoye Vremya calls into question the effectiveness of the implementation of government programs and investments.

So, despite the announcement of the implementation of the three five-year programs of regional development, there is no positive result and financial flows of the regions do not grow. This is not an efficient use of billions of manats.

The newspaper Yeni Musavat, in turn, expressed doubts about the feasibility of establishing the Financial Stability Board under the leadership of Prime Minister Artur Rasizade.

According to the expert Gubad Ibadoglu, the council is a truncated form of government. He believes that the Council will also act as the government and we should not wait for new approaches.

The banking expert Akram Hasanov, in turn, points out that what the Rasizade government failed to do for 20 years cannot be done for 1 month.
