Press Review August 6, 2018

The productivity of the agricultural sector, the likelihood of a rise in price of mobile phones, and the results of higher prices for transport are the leading topics of today's press.

The newspaper Azerbaijan on the example of the Shamkir region writes about the successes in the agrarian region. Greenhouses, the total area of which is 958 hectares, employ 6,039 people, growing crops.

During this year it is planned to build greenhouses on an area of almost 100 hectares. The author notes that of the more than 100 thousand tons of tomatoes grown, 61 thousand tons was sent to various cities of Russia, and the rest of almost 40 thousand tons - to the domestic market.

The author notes that farmers are provided with concessional loans, and loans for 63 million 832 thousand manat have been allocated for 1,111 projects so far.

Every year, production in the livestock sector grows. For 6 months of the current year, 4,918 tons of meat and 27,480 tons of milk were produced, egg production increased 4%, etc.

The website Musavat.com writes about the introduction of new duties on mobile phones, according to the decision of the Cabinet of July 31. In the community, there was a fear that mobile phones could rise in price by at least 50 percent.

The largest number of phones sold in Azerbaijan cost from 200 to 400 manat. The duty for such phones is 60 manat. Experts suggest that the increase in duties will not affect prices in large stores, as they import phones as legal entities.

Stores that work as individuals can raise prices.

The Novoye Vremya newspaper writes that, following an increase in the cost of transportation, an increase in prices for gasoline, gas and water is expected. In fact, the situation with the increase in tariffs for metro and buses is not so terrible as its consequences. The negative consequences caused by the Tariff Council"s decision are reinforced by the lack of compensatory measures to mitigate the consequences of rising prices for low-income segments of the population - students, schoolchildren, and pensioners. -0 ---
