Prosecutor asked real prison terms for former MFA employees
Baku/15.12.21/Turan: Today, there was a final speech of the state prosecutor in the Baku Court of Grave Crimes at the trial of former Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry official Farhad Mollazadeh and Consular Department employee Salim Alizadeh.
The prosecutor asked to sentence both defendants to 7 years of imprisonment, to cancel their house arrest and take them both into custody in the courtroom.
Note that Mollazadeh and Alizadeh were arrested by officers of the Azerbaijani State Security Service in May 2020. They were charged under Article 179.3.2 (grand larceny), Article 308 (abuse of office) and Article 311 (bribery) of the Criminal Code.
The investigation revealed financial mismanagement in the Foreign Ministry procurement activities. The transactions were carried out through fictitious tenders. -16d-
