Relatives of the arrested on Ganja events cannot get information about them
Baku / 24.07.18 / Turan: Yunis Safarov's relatives, the accused of attempted assassination of Elmar Veliyev, the mayor of the city of Ganja, complain that they cannot meet with him.
"Until now, we cannot establish contact with him, give him the necessary things and products. We appealed to all relevant structures: the prosecutor's office, the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Penitentiary Service, but in vain," said a representative of the Safarov family.
The lawyer with whom the family signed the contract, also could not visit Safarov.
The relatives intend to visit the Kurdakhan pre-trial detention center and to find out whether he is there.
The relatives of the other arrested in Ganja events are also not allowed to communicate, and are not told about the place of their detention. In total, according to the events, more than 20 people were arrested. At the same time, several people were killed during the detention.
On 3 July a native of Ganja, Russian citizen Yunis Safarov, wounded the head of Elmar Veliyev and his bodyguard Gasym Shahbazov. Law enforcers qualified this attack as a terrorist act.
On July 10, several hundred people held a protest against the mayor of Ganja, Elmar Veliyev. During the dispersal of the rally, two police officers were killed. After that, the authorities began repressions, dozens of people were arrested in various cities of the country. -06D-
