Solidarity Marathon to Be Continued - Oktay Gyulaliyev
Baku / 29.06.19 / Turan: Despite the failure of the Solidarity Marathon on June 28 as a result of police intervention at the headquarters of the Musavat Party, its organizers will continue to raise funds to pay fines for political activists. Turan was told by Ogtay Gyulaliyev - coordinator of the Committee against Repression and Torture, which organized the marathon.
According to him, the marathon was disrupted an hour after the detention of the leader of the Popular Front Party Ali Kerimli in front of the Musavat office.
"The purpose of our action is to help people illegally and unjustly fined administratively. Since November last year, more than 60 people have been fined in the amount of approximately 11,000 manat ($ 6,600). Moreover, people were punished not only for participating in protest actions, but also for collective visits to the Martyrs Alley and for being at the trials of arrested activists. In respect of some of them, the execution of court decisions has already begun," Gyulaliyev said
Since the marathon was broken, the necessary amount was not collected. Therefore, the Committee against Repression and Torture will continue the campaign of collecting donations in support of fined activists. According to Gyulaliyev, there are a lot of people willing to support the action, and in the coming days, the funds will be raised. -06D--
