State Committee calls for tolerance and monitors Salafi militants
The State Committee for Work with Religious Communities called Salafi groups to cease mutual recriminations, sounding in recent days in the media.
The statement noted "the allegations and subsequent actions are provocative and contrary to the principle of tolerance, as well as lead to the violation of human rights."
The State Committee considers that the actions of the Salafi groups negatively impact the religious situation in Azerbaijan and damage the image of the country.
The State Committee declares that it monitors those who are fighting abroad and, "according to the results of the monitoring, the necessary legal measures will be undertaken."
The extraordinary statement of the State Committee is still the only one made by the authorities of Azerbaijan in the light of numerous publications and video materials about the deaths of dozens of citizens of Azerbaijan in the fighting in Syria.
Authorities have not given a clear answer to many questions about this, and do not seem to know how to prevent militant Salafi flows from Azerbaijan to Syria and Iraq. -16D04-
