Sudden death of Vugar Hashimov
Died an Azerbaijani chess grandmaster, a three-time national champion in chess Vugar Hashimov. He died last night after a long illness .
Vugar Gashimov was born on July 24, 1986 in Baku. In 1995, 1996 and 1998 he won the championships in Azerbaijan. Four time he won a silver medal at the European Youth Championship (1996-2000.)
Four times Hashimov played for the team of Azerbaijan in the Chess Olympiads (2002 , 2004, 2006 , 2008.)
In 2007, he won a bronze medal at the European Team Championship .
In 2009 Hashimov became European champion in the national team of Azerbaijan, and it was he who brought the team the decisive point in the final round.
In the national team , he became the vice-champion of Europe 2011, and was the winner of the tournament Reggıo Emılıa (2010-2011 years.)

President of the European Parliament Roberta Metsola has invited Azerbaijani economist and political prisoner Professor Gubad Ibadoglu to Strasbourg to attend the 2024 Sakharov Prize award ceremony. The invitation, delivered by Member of the European Parliament Michael Bloss at the COP29 climate conference, comes as Ibadoglu remains under house arrest and prohibited from leaving Azerbaijan.
