Baku/22.06.23/Turan: Leader of the Muslim Unity movement, Taleh Bagirzade, who is serving an imprisonment, said that the rights of prisoners and poor conditions of detention in penitentiary number 12, in which he is being held, were violated.

"Despite the summer heat, electricity and water supply are cut off for hours in the colony. And this is despite the statement of the authorities that the colony has a supply of water for a whole month. The quality of food given to prisoners is very low and it smells bad," Bagirzade's relatives told Turan news agency.

Besides, the convicts are taken out to build on the parade ground under the scorching sun.

Bagirzade is under psychological pressure.

"Prisoners who communicate with Taleh Bagirzade are persecuted so that they do not keep in touch with him. One convicted for this was put in a punishment cell for 2 months, the other for 8 days. We applied to the Ombudsman's office, but they told us that the victims themselves or their relatives should apply. Taleh Bagirzade is experiencing moral torment because other people are suffering because of him. He asked to make public the facts of violations of the rights of prisoners of the colony in order to attract the attention of the public and state bodies to these problems," the same source said.

It has not yet been possible to get comments from the penitentiary service.

** Taleh Bagirzade was arrested during a special operation in Nardaran in November 2015 and sentenced to 20 years of imprisonment on charges of terrorism, an attempt to change the constitutional order, the creation of an illegal armed group, etc. He is recognized by human rights activists as a political prisoner. -B06-
