The Court does not softened the punishment of Mamed Ibrahim due to "no sincerity".
A preliminary hearing on the complaint of the advisor to the chairman of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA) Mamed Ibrahim took place in the Baku Appeal Court presided by Sahibhan Mirzoyev. Ibrahim was arrested on September 30 last year on charges of disorderly conduct (221.1), the complaint was filed by Mikyail Guliyev - a former member of the PFPA. Subsequently, this Article has been reclassified to a heavier charge on paper - 221.2.2 (hooliganism with the use of an object used as a weapon). On 15March the Narimanov district court found Ibrahim guilty, and sentenced him to 3 years in prison.
Because 1/3 thirds of term has been served Ibrahim asked the court for leniency and transfer him into a colony-settlement. However, on November 25 the Surakhani district court rejected the petition. The Court explained this decision by saying that Ibrahim behavior among prisoners "is not sincere."
Today the lawyer Yalcin Imanov asked the appellate court to establish the identity of the convicted, invite them as witnesses and ask what is "insincerity" of Ibrahim. The request was rejected, and the examination of the merits is scheduled for 29 December, told the lawyer Imanov. Human rights organizations have recognized Ibrahim as a political prisoner. -B06 -
