"The Hunt" for Cars in City Center Continues
For the second day, there is an "operation" to clear the central streets of parked cars. Police accompanied by tow trucks remove dozens of "offenders" to parking impound lots.
At the same time, a number of main streets (R. Behbudov, Bul Bul, etc.) are completely cleared. Police patrols do not allow parking. Motorists are nervous and angry and there were several confrontations with the police.
The Traffic Police Department has not commented on this or issued press releases on the matter.
Clearing of the streets began after the largest city underground parking for 4,500 cars opened. However, few people are willing to pay AZN 4 a day for parking (previously, on-street traffic controllers of parking were paid about 50 qapik). The monthly fee will be about 160 manats or Euros. Few people are willing to pay so much at an average salary of 300-400 manats.
The city authorities, to whom the parking lot belongs, set these high prices. Mayor Hajibala Abutalibov publicly promised that the prices of these car parks would be lower than the existing ones.
Over the past two days, the number of people who use motor vehicles to get to the center has significantly decreased.
Soon the second largest parking area under Azadlig Square will open.
These two parking areas should relieve traffic jams on downtown streets, but that does not mean that motorists will enjoy these parking lots. -02B-

Baku, often called the "Caucasian Dubai," is increasingly known for systematic violations of residents' housing rights. During urban renovations and the construction of elegant new buildings, thousands of families in Azerbaijan’s capital have been unlawfully deprived of their homes. Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
