The journalist complained to the criminal prosecution in connection with professional activities

Today Matlab Hasanli, the  owner of “Turan Eli” newspaper and the same-name on-line TV, held a press conference at which he complained of bureaucratic arbitrariness.

The Internet TV «Turan Eli» has been valid for four months, and from the outset faced with the pressure of the chief executive of Ganja, Elmar Veliyev. In particular, television criticized Veliyev for ill-treatment and insulting people, and even for assault. In addition, they were preparing materials on demolishing of houses, despite people had a documents for property. Hasanli was warned to cease the production of such stories, and even leave the city.  

In addition, city officials were interested in the place of residence of journalist’s relatives, and a place where his children study. However Hasanli continued his activities.

Previously, five months ago the newspaper «Turan Eli» which operated since 2006, was closed.

According to Hasanli, on August 16 Veliyev ordered the city prosecutor's office and the police "to shut the journalist’s mouth".

In late August, a lawsuit was filed against him under the Article 221 (hooliganism) on charges of allegedly beating a woman by the name Hajar Hasanov. Hasanli refused the accusation, and says that employees of the TV channel only interviewed her. He said charges against him were politically motivated to stop his critical articles. On September 11 Hasanli was summoned to testify in Ganja police. -05C-
