The trial in the case of the activist expelled from Germany continues
Baku/12.08.22/Turan: The trial in the case of Jafar Mirzoyev, an activist of the Popular Front Party, continues in the Baku Serious Crimes Court. He was arrested after being expelled from Germany and charged with drug trafficking.
The testimony of witnesses, who were the police officers who arrested the activist, ended at the meeting on August 12, said his brother Vusal Mirzoyev.
The trial, chaired by Judge Javid Huseynov, is conducted biased and the defense motions are rejected, the activist's brother noted.
Aty the trial the activist himself once again stated that he was detained in a store in the village of Ramana when he was shopping, and police officers planted drugs on him. Mirzoyev stated that he was tortured, demanding a confession. The next meeting will take place on August 26.
* Jafar Mirzoyev is one of 4 activists arrested after being expelled from Germany last autumn on charges of drug trafficking. Two more activists were arrested on other charges. Human rights activists recognized all as political prisoners.
Mirzoyev was expelled from Germany on November 25, 2021 and arrested in Baku on January 27. He was charged under the Article 234.4.3 (large-scale drug trafficking) of the Criminal Code. Activists face 5 to 12 years in prison. --06B--

On January 29, municipal elections were held in Azerbaijan, with over 16,000 candidates participating across 118 constituencies.
