This year Ashura will be on September 20
Baku /03.09.18/Turan: Muharram's month of mourning for Shiite Muslims begins on September 10, and its tenth day of Ashura will be celebrated on September 20th. On this occasion, a special Fatwa of the Council of Cadews of the Caucasus Muslims Office is being prepared. Muharram is one of the five months in Islam, during which wars and conflicts are banned. Ashura is the 10th day of Muharram. On this day in 680, a small detachment of Imam Hussein fell in an unequal battle near the city of Karbala with superior Umayyad detachments. Since then, supporters of Imam Ali (the founder of Shiism) have marked Ashura as a common mourning.
Imam Hussein opposed the Umayad distortion of the foundations of the Islamic religion laid down by the Prophet Muhammad, which was expressed in the desire for a luxurious life at the expense of depriving the poor and deepening social inequality. In addition, in the month of Muharram and the following month Safar (within 40 days of Hussein's death) Shiites abstain from weddings and other celebrations. -05D06-
