Tofig Yagublu left the clinic and went home (UPDATED / 2)
Baku / 18.09.20 / Turan: Contrary to the requests of doctors, Tofig Yagublu refused to stay in the clinic and went home following a court decision today to place him under house arrest.
At about 5 pm, Yagublu, surrounded by his loved ones, left the City Hospital building and addressed the gathered supporters with words of gratitude.
“Thank you all for your support, the fight for justice and truth will continue. I am not giving up my position and the charges against me are far-fetched. The courts, the investigation and their witnesses are participants in the falsification and must be held accountable for this,” Yagublu said. -03B-

Tofig Yagublu released under house arrest
Baku/18.09.20/Turan: Toda the judge of the Court of Appeal Elmar Rahimov considered and granted the defense petition to change the preventive measure for oppositionist Tofig Yagublu and transfer him under house arrest in 20 minutes, said his lawyer Elchin Sadigov leaving the courtroom.
Yagublu was sentenced to 4 years and 3 months in prison on charges of hooliganism. Protesting against the falsified sentence, Yagublu started a hunger strike, which he held for 17 days and in fact was close to death.
Numerous international organizations and a number of public figures in the country called on the authorities to overturn the unfair sentence and release Yagublu.
The sentence of first instance on imprisonment has not yet entered into force, so transfer to house arrest has become possible.
Another appeal for irregularities in the trial will be heard in the Court of Appeal on September 28.
Doctors reported that Yagublu's health does not yet allow him to leave the intensive care unit of the hospital. To gain strength, he will have to spend several more days in the hospital, doctors said. -03B-
