Verdict against T. Yagublu is a vivid evidence of legal lawlessness in the country, IMD
Baku / 03.09.20 / Turan: The trial in the case of Tofiq Yagublu, where all the rules of law and defense arguments were ignored, is a vivid evidence of complete legal lawlessness in the Republic of Azerbaijan. This is stated in a statement by the director of the Institute for Peace and Democracy, Leyla Yunus.
There are 191 political prisoners in Azerbaijan today. A new wave of brutal repression began in the spring of 2020 after President Ilham Aliyev's speech on March 19, when he called for reprisals against the opposition as "enemies of the people" and "the fifth column."
On March 23, the same Nariman Mehdiyev imprisoned Yagublu, violating all the norms of the national legislation of Azerbaijan and international law.
Undoubtedly, the European Court of Human Rights recognizes the verdict against Tofig Yagublu in violation of the articles of the European Convention. But will this middle-aged man survive these years, will he survive these bullying?
“Tofig Yagublu is the first victim of the 2020 repression. The authorities began their next repressive campaign during the pandemic with the most authoritative leader of the opposition. In total, in March-August 2020, criminal charges were falsified against 43 opposition activists.
We call on the people of Azerbaijan and the international community to begin the struggle for the liberation of one of the best sons of Azerbaijan, Tofig Yagublu,” reads the statement. -02D-

Baku, often called the "Caucasian Dubai," is increasingly known for systematic violations of residents' housing rights. During urban renovations and the construction of elegant new buildings, thousands of families in Azerbaijan’s capital have been unlawfully deprived of their homes. Many, recognizing the futility of resistance, settle for inadequate monetary compensation for their irreplaceable property. A minority, placing faith in the Housing Code, demand fair compensation from construction companies but often lose everything—both their homes and any form of recompense.
