Baku/24.07.23/Turan: Amid the peak of summer, several retail establishments are flouting street trade regulations by obstructing sidewalks and bike paths, despite being in direct violation of the law. Surprisingly, these actions are taking place right under the noses of the police and local authorities.

These instances of non-compliance are most commonly observed in resort areas on the outskirts of the city. For instance, in the Khazar district along the Buzovna-Shuvelyan highway, the owner of the Dalga store, specializing in beach products, has completely blocked the sidewalk and even the bike path with a large billboard. This move constitutes a clear breach of the "On Road Traffic" law. According to the law, a "bicycle lane" refers to a portion of the road separated by a longitudinal marking line, specifically designated for bicycle movement. Similarly, a "bicycle path" is a separate road intended solely for bicycle traffic, segregated from regular highways. Blocking or creating obstacles in these dedicated lanes is a blatant nuisance.

Strangely, neither the traffic police, patrol police, nor local authorities have taken any apparent action to address these flagrant violations.

When approached for comment, the Main State Directorate of the Traffic Police seemed unsure about the situation. A representative from the MSDTP stated Turan that urgent measures would be taken to restore order in these illegal areas, and the relevant authorities would be informed of the matter.--0--
