Water Level in Caspian Falls by One Meter
Baku / 06.26.19 / Turan: The Caspian Sea is a closed reservoir and the water level in it varies periodically. The latest monitoring shows that the water level in the Caspian has dropped by more than a meter.
This was stated by the head of the environmental policy department of the Ministry of Environment Rasim Sattarzadeh.
According to him, the change in sea level is due to climate. Thus, climatic fluctuations in the basins of rivers flowing into the sea, the water level of these rivers, as well as evaporation on the Caspian surface affect sea-level fluctuations.
According to Sattarzadeh, in 1977 the water level decreased to its lowest level in the 20th century.
"Later in the period 1977-1995 the sea rose by 2.5 meters. Since then, the process of lowering has been observed again," Sattarzadeh said.
At the same time, he stressed that the current decrease in the level of the Caspian does not represent a danger to the environment, the health of people or economic areas. -06D--
