Zamin Salaev has been starving for 35 days
Baku/13.03.23/Turan: A petition has been filed with the Garadagh District Court to change the preventive measure to house arrest against Zamin Salayev, chairman of the Salyan district organization of the Popular Front Party; a lawyer Nemat Kerimli said that the review is expected on March 15.
Zamin Salayev has been on hunger strike for 35 days in the Baku pre-trial detention Center No. 1, protesting against unjustified arrest. His health remains serious. Salaev's son Ogtay said that his father talks with difficulty and cannot walk, doctors do not visit him. "I have demanded a meeting with my father several times, but they do not allow, referring to the instructions of the leadership," the son said.
The attempts to get information about Zamin Salaev's health in the Penitentiary Service were futile.
On March 11, Salaev was visited by representatives of the Ombudsman. "There were appeals to the Prosecutor General's Office and the Main Medical Department of the Ministry of Justice on his issue," said the head of the press service of the Ombudsman's office, Emil Shahzade.
On February 8, the Garadagh District Court of Baku arrested Zamin Salayev for three months.
A lawsuit has been filed against him under the Article 221.3 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (hooliganism – use of force) and he faces up to 5 years in prison.
Zamin Salaev said in court that the accusation against him is false. "I didn't attack anyone, on the contrary, I defended myself from an attack. When I got out of a taxi in the Lokbatan district of Baku, I was insulted by an unknown person and rushed with a knife. I realized that this was a provocation and began to defend myself, and then ran away. A couple of minutes later, I was detained by plainclothes policemen and taken to the Garadagh police department," Salayev said on February 20 at the Baku Court of Appeal. The court did not satisfy his complaint. ---03B---
