Weekly Economic Review: May 4–10, 2026

The week of May 25–31, 2026 demonstrated Azerbaijan’s continued commitment to strengthening its position as a regional transport, energy, and logistics hub of Eurasia. Following the conclusion of the WUF13 World Urban Forum, economic policy attention gradually shifted toward the development of transport corridors, financial modernization, the energy transition, and preparations for Baku Energy Week.

The week from May 18 to May 24, 2026 demonstrated that Azerbaijan’s economic policy remains largely concentrated around three strategic directions: the development of transit and logistics infrastructure, the strengthening of the country’s energy role in Europe, and the acceleration of the digital transformation of public administration.

The week of May 11–17, 2026 demonstrated that Azerbaijan’s economy is increasingly entering a phase of structural transition in which the previous growth model, largely based on high oil and gas revenues, is facing mounting limitations and the need for deep modernization. At the same time, the authorities are attempting to preserve macrofinancial stability, expand external economic ties and accelerate the country’s technological transformation.

The period of April 27 – May 3, 2026 reflects a more pronounced shift toward institutional restructuring of the economy, alongside a strengthening of the state’s role in resource management and an acceleration of digital transformation. The agenda is shaped around three interrelated directions: the reallocation of budget priorities, the deepening of regulatory mechanisms, and the adaptation of the economic model to structural constraints.
